If you don't know David Choe or his work...first off he's an amazing graffiti artist, he's a great fine artist, he's one of the most driven and interesting people I've ever met....he's a HUGE influence on me...even though we draw nothing alike....or maybe not.
we'll see....
anyway he's been down to the studio a few times...I might have found this pic online I can't even remember...but they are standing in front of my old desk...you can see some of my inspiration on the walls (this pic was from about 7 years back)....Michael Golden, some Leyendecker, Drew Struzan, Mignola, Travis, Jim Lee (it's a batman drawing kinda right in the middle top area...was for my birthday)....Frank Miller, Otomo...you know the GOOD shit!
anyway....I love David Choe so as he would say...fuck it I wanted to post this pic..it's not art, does have a little to do with wildstorm though.
yeah no shit right....when I first met David he wasn't as HUGE as he is right now/ My guess is it was 2001? We went to a lunch with Jim Lee ('sushi on the rock' in La Jolla) which was GREAT but the conversation was EVEN better....I could listen to his adventures for hours.)...but beyond that, I just loved him as a person immediately because he's a real artist as I think I am.....I don't mean that in an elitist way but some people function better as a simple thing...his energy and just like freedom blew me away....I am that guy...but a little more timid than David is/
I was serious when I said, he is a gigantic influence on me, although at the moment our work (at face value) is nothing alike.
He's in there though...I wouldn't have had the courage to do the black drawings I don't think without knowing him and his "fuck it, let the chips fall where they may" attitude. I do feel that way to some degree.
Super awesome, Jim Lee been in my head for along time and Chow more recently with the Juxtapoz mag and street art, I'm just glad I have people I grew up with that still art the world. Damn straigh, fuck it, do what you want and have a good time. Happy New Year!! g
