I've always been a big fan of Chris Bachalo (well since I started collecting comics which was around 1993-ish/
I was a big fan of Jae Lee at the time and really was into all the Youngblood Strikefile stuff he was doing...I think I had gone back and checked out the Namor work...and was collecting Wild Cats Trilogy.
a friend who was also a big Jae Lee fan (Lance Sells) said that he thought I would really like this guy doing a book called Generation Next./ And he was RIGHT. It was so different than a lot of the stuff coming out...and plain and simple it had BALLS.
When I got a call about inking Chris it was really a big deal and I honestly was a little surprised because he had always worked for different companies than I had so it's like two worlds that are sorta close....but at the same time so far away.
When this page came in I remember thinking...'wow this really is Bachalo like I love to see it' It just encapsulates what his work is all about...it's surreal, it's wild, it's a little encrypted, it's gutsy and non apologetic.. but mainly.....really great comic art.
anyway..from issue 1 of Steampunk 'Fiona' dying on a cool looking car.....as Cole Blaquesmith's heart floats away....
I thought this was one of the most underrated books ever. I loved what you guys did on this series, and I liked the characterization in the story. There were some really nice moments in this series.
You know I love the Steampunk Series, it is one of my favorite comics of all time, Chris' Art was incredible and of course, so was your inks and bad @$$' colors, the only thing that bothered me was that stipple type shading that was used, it seemed to take away from your beautiful inks.
Please don't think I am griping, like I said, this is one of my favorite books of all time, you did an incredible job, as always , Rich !!!
ricH.
