Bride of Frankenstein by Blasterkid Bride of Frankenstein by Blasterkid
This is a brand new scan of this piece...I had a few and they were smaller and just didn't look like the original. I am going through art right now for comic con and I came across the original...and I was thinking...the scan doesn't look as cool as the original..

so this is a little better.

A lot of people liked this one when I first did it (2005 or 2006?) it's was like a collective revelation and everyone was like "THIS IS what you should be doing!!"

The Hellboy's lair piece was another one where people kind of went..."hello this is your style...own this."

hahaha

pen and inks, water colors, ink washes..and maybe a little acrylic paint...

Bride of Frankenstein by ~Blasterkid is just fantastic. I rarely have a hard time finding words to explain my choices, but this time, I'm speechless. See for yourself, it is simply wonderful. ( Featured by aunjuli )

If there is ever a definitive collection of The Bride put together on deviantART, this would have to enter the conversation as being among the very best renderings of the character ever presented on this site. ;-)

ah cool thanks so much...was a big turning point working in that style with the looser water colors and more brushy strokes.

I love all sorts of art in many different categories, but some strike a deeper chord in me due to subject matter or the sheer talent involved. This is one of those pieces, and for both reasons.

Fantastic! Brilliant job!

I DO. Seriously it was the most amazing night. I mean to walk to the backstage area (about 4 PM while it was still sunny out) and then to see Gerard back there hanging out (first time I met him was on project revolution tour opening for Linkin Park) but yeah he took us right back stage to their dressing room where Frank was (Mikey actually was on a break at the time) Bob and Ray sorta kept to themselves...but about 20 minutes later we were back at this area where all the bands eat dinner..and we sit down at pretty much a lunch bench like they have in schools and it's me Gerard Jim and Jim's girlfriend. Gerard was literally a foot from me. Jim was drawing characters that Gerard was talking about...we talked a little about when Gerard used to work at DC comics...I mean it was AMAZING...and he was SO nice and normal. I was in bands for years and I've been in comics now for a while...so to me there's no big difference between being fan or being the "performer" and what I like about MCR is they act exactly like that. TRUST ME. not all people in bands (big or small) or all comic artists act this way.

but yeah so we talked for about 20-30 minutes and then he had to go get ready for their set. He came back around 30 minutes later maybe a little longer....and this was the BEST part (well it was all the best part) but they are about to take the stage (now it's about 6:45 PM so it's still light out...) but they are all in black (I am thinking they were still wearing the Black Parade outfits..) but they are there...and the crowd knows they are about to come on...I was sorta where Gerard was and he came up to me and goes "you are going to have so much fun...!!" and I am thinking "NO SHIT I am going to have so much fun....he gave me a big high five" and basically they take the stage. I got to watch the show right by Franks amps...and it was just awesome.

after the show we hung out with Frank and his dad for easily an hour...(just us literally) at one point it was just me, Frank, Jim, and Carla (Jim's girlfriend) and we talked about normal stuff.

I really can't thank Jim or the guys in MCR...because I was already a huge FAN and more importantly I believe in the band, what they stand for..., the positivity they send out.

as Gerard was leaving he thanked me for coming and gave me a big hug...I mean seriously it just doesn't get any better than that right?

It was incredible.

we saw them again on Bamboozal left and it was really cool too.

I'll save that story for a different time..but suffice it to say.

they really are as nice and down to earth as you've seen in the interviews and on the LOTMS dvd.

I love those guys.

!

thanks again....I hope you enjoy the story...I am not telling you to brag (as a matter of fact I've never shared that story online anywhere) but enough time has gone by and I appreciate anyone who likes MCR because we are special people.

:)

I think too because the band has had such a positive influence on me in terms of straightening up my own life...it's my responsibility to share that positivity too....because it's a real energy you can tap into...and achieve your dreams just like they did...and you don't have to be an asshole to do it.

OH MAN.

HOW DO YOU MEET THESE GUYS?

JIM LEE IS MY HERO AT COMICS, MAN. Since I've owned the Batman comic HUSH, he has been one of my favorite artists since Ed Benes and James Jean. You're probably one of the luckiest dudes on earth, man. Meeting Gerard Way... sure, that's big, but getting to talk to him for HALF AN HOUR? SEE HIS SKETCHBOOK? Consider yourself blessed.

Now, I think I consider you one of my favorite artists just the same. Your stuff are amazing. And I'm kinda rushing on this reply because I don't know what to say because I am much too proud of you and your achievements, and I have to say, you do deserve all that. :D

did you see the piece I did for Frank?

It's this piece:

[link]

I've met both Frank and Gerard twice....Gerard even gave me a big hug (swear to god) he was SO nice and like the entire night we were their guests and they treated us just like family. I actually hung out with Frank and his dad for a while...it was cool to talk with his dad and to just say..."you must be so proud of your son....)

and Gerard myself and Jim Lee talked about comics (just us three) for about a half hour...and I got to see Gerard's sketchbook and it was just an amazing night...plus we got to see them play live right from the stage.

I really can't say enough nice things about them...they are as nice as they seem and even nicer in person if you can believe.

they are my heroes too!

:)
